2015 Heritage Alliance Meeting

The Macomb County Heritage Alliance (MCHA) is a consortium of local historical and genealogical organizations located within Macomb County.  MCHA was organized in 1996 by Madeline Page and Patricia Hallman.

This year’s annual Alliance Meeting was hosted by the Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society (MIMTHS), 16600 Stephens, Eastpointe, Michigan on Saturday, April 25th.  MIMTHS is open Saturdays and Sundays.  Check out their website for more information about admission, hours of operation, and upcoming events by clicking here.  The historical and genealogical groups had displays of flyers for their upcoming events to share with other attendees, listened to the program conducted by Amy Smolski, Commonwealth Administrator for the Macomb County Community Mental Health.  Amy provided handouts and information on her program to the attendees. For additional information on her program, visit her website by clicking here.  MCHA also held their annual business meeting and caught up with activities and events for the other historical/genealogical organizations in attendance.  Approximately 40 people attended, representing various historical/genealogical organizations across Macomb County.  Lunch was served utilizing a Military chow line except for the two vegetarians in the group who were served MREs (meals-ready-to-eat).

In recognition of those who have and continue to contribute to preserving the history of Macomb County, MCHA recognizes individuals and organizations for their many hours of volunteer work by presenting the Alexander Macomb Award on an annual basis.  This year’s deserving individual award was presented to Madeline Page.  Madeline is a current board member of the Macomb County Historical Society & Crocker House Museum and was a co-organizer of MCHA.  Madeline’s volunteer activities over the years include collecting material for Macomb County Historical Society’s Vertical File, creating and maintaining a Surname File that is kept at the Mount Clemens Public Library, and collecting obituaries of locals and keeping them on file.

MCHA recognized the Macomb County Genealogy Group for the Alexander Macomb Organization Award presenting the award to Ann Faulkner, Reference Librarian, Mount Clemens Public Library.  The Macomb County Genealogy Group is sponsored by the Mount Clemens Public Library and has met regularly since its beginning in 1973.  This group is just one of many within the metro-Detroit area that works consistently to learn about their chosen hobby, share their experiences, help each other and give back to the genealogical community.  They meet every other Friday at 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Mount Clemens Public Library.   2016’s Annual Meeting is tentatively scheduled to be hosted by Sterling Heights Historical Commission.
